How to Transform Your Bedroom on a Budget
2. FLIP FURNITURE TO MAKE IT UNIQUELY YOURS
Our nightstands were a very affordable option from IKEA. It is no longer available, but here is a very similar look from Amazon. We wanted to elevate the look a little bit so we drilled new holes and added gold handles to add to high-end look of the entire room.
3. HANG DRAPES
Drapes add light and make the room look bigger and make the window look centered. I hung the drapes so they look luxurious and created the illusion of a centered window (my window is far from centered). I wanted a double wide curtain look, but found it was cheaper to order two sets of normal drapes instead of 1 set of double wide drapes. I hung the curtain rod 3 inches down from the top of the ceiling to create height and then 3 inches from the far sides of each wall. Even though the window isn't centered on the wall, the drape rod was hung centered. Then I evenly spaced the drapes on either side to create the illusion that the window is centered. I love using drape rings to add beautiful pleats and give the drapes a custom length without having to hem. And don't forget to steam them!
4. USE BUDGET BEDDING
To create a luxurious feel without busting the bank, I used a budget friendly white coverlet and simple white duvet cover. Then I found this beautiful chunky knit blanket from Target and I love the way it turned out. I prefer to be more minimal with pillows. We keep 4 king sized pillows for sleeping, 2 stacked on top of each other. In front of the king sized pillows, I place 3 (26"x26") white velvet Euro shams and inserts (both from Amazon and very affordably priced), then 2 decorative pillows in front. This makes it easy to make, beautifully simple, and if my kids step on or stain any part of my bedding...I am not upset because I didn't pay an arm and a leg to put it all together. Oh, and I LOVE my upholstered bed from Wayfair and our budget friendly mattress and box spring, both from Amazon.
5. ADD A RUG
This does not have to be a break-the-budget sort of rug (most of it is under the bed. My rug measures 8x10 and was $110. It is neutral, adds softness, and brings the whole room together.
6. HANG SCONCES
My sconces are from Amazon and I love them. No need to hard wire them. We hung a piece of art right below either sconce to cover the cord. I also used a smart plug so I don't ever have to reach to turn my bedside light on or off. I love the look and that it clears clutter from my nightstand.
