Organizing for Shea and Syd McGee has become one of the greatest honors of my career. We've already shared how we organized Studio McGee's laundry room, craft room, and pantry, and today I'm walking you through what might be my favorite space yet: Shea's primary closet and bathroom.
If you follow Studio McGee, you know that Shea has an unmatched eye for timeless, elevated design. Getting to organize a space that she and her family use every single day, and having her trust our team to bring functional systems into her personal home, is something I don't take for granted. This blog will walk you through exactly how we approached her primary closet and bathroom organization, the products we used, and the design choices that made this space both luxurious and livable.
Designing an Organized Luxury Closet & Bathroom for Shea McGee's Home
When we first walked into Shea's primary suite, the bones of the space were already stunning. Clean white walls, light oak flooring running throughout the closet, and a bathroom finished with white floors and walls paired with light oak cabinetry. Our job wasn't to redesign the space, it was to create systems within it that would let the beauty of the room shine while making it effortless for Shea and her family to use every single day.
One of my favorite parts of organizing for designers is that they already understand the power of a cohesive aesthetic. Shea wanted her closet to feel like an extension of the calm, elevated style she's known for, and that meant every product we brought in needed to earn its place both functionally and visually.
Primary Closet Organization
The closet is finished with beautiful white cabinetry that pairs seamlessly with the light oak flooring. We wanted every organizing product we brought in to complement this existing palette rather than compete with it, so we stuck to a curated mix of textures: warm woven textures, soft neutrals, and clean acrylic where visibility mattered most.
Textured Bins for a High-End, Functional Look Instead of reaching for basic plastic bins, we used textured woven bins throughout the closet. These add warmth and a boutique-like feel to the space while still being incredibly functional for storing folded items, out-of-season pieces, and accessories. Texture is such an easy way to elevate an organized space without adding visual clutter, and it's one of our go-to design choices when we're working with a designer-level client.
Shoe Display Shea's shoe collection deserved a moment, so we created a dedicated shoe display that keeps her most-loved pairs visible and easy to grab. Displaying shoes (rather than tucking them away in opaque bins) not only looks beautiful, it also makes it far more likely that a system actually gets maintained, because everything has a clear, visible home.
Purse Display Just like the shoes, we gave Shea's handbag collection a proper display. Purses are an investment piece for so many of our clients, and displaying them properly protects their shape and makes getting ready each morning feel a little more special.
Creating Systems Based on How Shea Actually Gets Dressed This is the step that makes the biggest difference in any closet we organize, and it's one that's easy to overlook. We didn't just sort clothing by category, we thought through Shea's actual routine. What does she reach for most often? What can live folded in drawers? What makes more sense hung behind cabinet doors, out of the main sightline but still easy to access?
The result is a closet that isn't just beautiful for a photo, it's a closet that will stay organized because it was built around how Shea genuinely lives and gets dressed each day.
Matching Hangers for a Cohesive, Clutter-Free Look If there's one tip I give every single client, it's this: invest in matching hangers. It sounds simple, but it might be the single easiest way to instantly elevate any closet. We used our favorite slim, matching hangers throughout Shea's closet to create that clean, cohesive line you see in every beautifully styled closet on Pinterest and Instagram.
The Drop Zone: Jewelry, Perfume, and Everyday Essentials
Between the closet and bathroom, we designed a small but mighty drop zone. This little transitional space has quickly become one of my favorite design details in the whole project.
It includes:
A dedicated spot for jewelry, so favorite pieces are visible and ready to grab
Perfume displayed in a marble tray for easy access as part of the daily getting-ready routine
Open shelving for decorative baskets and styled decor
Drawers for glasses, jewelry storage, and additional folded clothing with bamboo dividers
This drop zone bridges the closet and bathroom beautifully, both in function and in style, and it's a great example of how even a small, in-between space can be designed with just as much intention as the larger areas of a home.
Primary Bathroom Organization
Shea's primary bathroom is a masterclass in luxury simplicity: clean white walls and floors paired with warm light oak cabinetry. Our goal was to bring the same level of intentional systems into this space that we brought into the closet, without disrupting the calm, elevated feel of the room.
Under the sinks of the double vanity, we used a combination of:
Stacking acrylic bins to maximize vertical space and keep smaller items visible
Long acrylic bins to make use of the deeper cabinet space without anything getting lost in the back
Acrylic drawer organizers to keep everyday essentials contained and easy to find
Acrylic is one of our favorite materials for bathroom organization because it's clear, easy to wipe down, and creates that clean, boutique-like feel, while still being extremely practical for daily use.
No Reset Your Nest project is complete without labels, and Shea's bathroom was no exception. We used our favorite Brother P-touch Cube Plus labeler with 24mm tape to label the drawers and bins throughout the space. Labeling isn't just the finishing touch that makes a space look polished, it's also what keeps a system easy to maintain long after we've left. When everyone in the household knows exactly where something belongs, it's so much easier to put it back.
