Styling Tips for Minimalist Fall Decor

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

It's that time of year...

Cooler weather, crisp morning air. Sweaters, long pants, boots. Soup, apple cider, hot chocolate, perk (my favorite!)*. Pumpkin patches, raking, jumping into huge leaf piles. Back to school, more routine, shorter daylight hours. FALL. I love the changing of seasons, and autumn time is my favorite time. One of my favorite ways to usher in this beautiful time of year is with simple, minimalist and beautiful fall home decor.

Changing out decorations for every season or holiday can look and feel intimidating and overwhelming sometimes, but I truly believe anyone can do it with just a few simple swaps!

How to Decorate for Fall Without Adding Clutter

Here are my top tips for ushering in the new season without adding clutter to your home:

Minimalist Fall Decor Tip #1

If you don't already have a centerpiece on your table, fall is the perfect time to add one. A simple vase and some beautiful fall stems are the perfect and easy way to bring the gorgeous outdoor fall colors inside your home. Add a table runner underneath to really complete the look.

Swap out your summer or everyday front door wreath with a gorgeous fall one. Add some mums, pumpkins, and a fall-looking welcome mat, and your front porch or entryway will transform.

Pillows are such a fun and easy way to change a space. Add a few with fall colors and patterns for a big impact. When I change out my pillows for a holiday or season, I store my everyday pillows right in the seasonal storage bin I'm using. This way, when you go to put your holiday or seasonal things away, your everyday pillows will be waiting for you. Slipcovers are also a great way to change up your pillows without having to figure out storage space.

Minimalist Fall Decor Tip #4

Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins! They seem to be in every store come September. Find some that you love and stick them on your mantle, coffee table, and entryway table. To avoid too much clutter or things looking too busy, I'll often replace my everyday knick-knacks with pumpkins so that there's not too much going on in any given space. Place a fall-smelling candle alongside them, and you're good to go.
