The Colonial: A Whole-Home Organization in Salt Lake City

Some homes feel like they've always belonged to their street. That's exactly the feeling you get the moment you pull up to "The Colonial," a stunning new build nestled in the heart of Salt Lake City's storied Harvard-Yale neighborhood (as featured in Utah Style & Design). Traditional architecture, exquisite millwork, and a curated collection of custom furnishings, unique upholstery, and carefully chosen tile and wallpaper come together to create a home that feels as though it has graced its tree-lined street for a century, even though it's brand new.
Designed and built by The Fox Group, this home is a masterclass in timeless charm meeting modern intention. When The Fox Group connected Reset Your Nest with their client we knew this was exactly the kind of project our team lives for: a beautiful, luxury home in need of thoughtful, functional systems that could keep up with real life.

A Big Move (In the Middle of a Busy Summer)
When this family of 8 made their move into The Colonial, life was anything but still. With 6 children and a summer packed full of activity, the pressure to settle in quickly was real. Moving is stressful under any circumstance, but moving a household of 8 during the busiest season of the year is an entirely different challenge.
This is exactly where our team was able to step in and make the biggest difference. We didn't just want to help this family unpack boxes, we wanted to hand them back their summer. Our team installed organization systems throughout the entire home, stocked snack zones in the pantry, filled the fridge, and transformed the basement into a perfectly organized haven for games and play. By the time the last box disappeared, this family didn't just have a house, they had a home, ready for every beautiful, busy moment ahead.
Here's a look inside every space we organized throughout The Colonial.
Inside a Luxury Whole-Home Salt Lake City Organization Project for a Growing Family of 8
Primary Closet Organization
A primary closet in a home like this deserves systems that are just as elevated as the design around it. We created zoned, intentional storage for hanging clothes, folded items, and accessories, using matching black wood hangers throughout for that clean, cohesive look our luxury clients love. Every category, from everyday essentials to special occasion pieces, was given a designated home so getting ready each morning feels effortless instead of chaotic. We used Cambridge bins from the Container Store as well as gold label clips for a high-end look.
Primary Bathroom Organization
To match the elevated, timeless design of the home, we organized the primary bathroom with the same level of intention, creating clear zones for daily routines, backstock, and shared storage between household members. When a bathroom is organized with real routines in mind, it becomes a space that actually supports the family living in it, not just one that looks good for a photo.
Mudroom Organization
For a family of eight, a mudroom isn't a luxury, it's a lifeline. We designed a mudroom system built for 6 kids' worth of shoes, backpacks, coats, and sports gear, with clearly zoned and labeled storage that makes it easy for every child (no matter their age) to find what they need and put it back where it belongs. A well-organized mudroom is one of the single biggest daily stress-relievers we can offer a busy family, and it was a top priority in this home.
Home Office Organization
We created a home office designed to support the day-to-day operations of running a household this size, from documents in water hyacinth baskets to everyday supplies separated in drawer organizers. Every drawer and shelf was given a clear purpose so the space stays functional and calm, even amid the busy pace of family life. Plus, a large cork board covered in a beautiful fabric was hung above the desk to display kids' artwork.
Kid Spaces Organization
With 6 children in the home, organizing the kids' spaces was one of the most rewarding parts of this project. We designed closets and bedrooms with age-appropriate systems that allow each child to be successful independently, while also creating a beautifully organized basement space dedicated entirely to games and play.
The basement playroom transformation quickly became one of our favorite parts of the entire project: a space where toys, games, and activities all have a defined, easy-to-maintain home, giving both the kids and their parents room to breathe. We utilized the cabinetry of the entertainment center to decant and store board games in plastic bins. We used thin boxes for some board games and thick boxes for others with larger pieces. The card games were decanted into photo boxes and stored in a labeled acrylic bin.
We loved this family’s IKEA Trofast playroom storage and added labels to make it easier for kids to manage where toys go when it’s time to clean up. In the toy closet, we kept it simple with clear stacking bins and large felt baskets. The clear bins with small parts were kept up high for adults and bigger kids to reach for things like puzzles, small counting blocks, Legos, and more. The felt bins were filled with lots of dress up clothes, American Girl Dolls, and stuffed animals.
Garage Organization
Rounding out the exterior spaces, we brought the same zoned, labeled systems to the garage, creating organized storage for everything from seasonal gear to household overflow. We kept weather-tight bins and other large items in their overhead garage racks. It’s best to get as many things off the floor, and Slatwalls are a great way to do that. Because you aren’t drilling individual hooks into the wall, it’s easier to customize and change over time with hooks and baskets. In the metal storage cabinets, we arranged their tools and equipment in categories using multi-purpose bins, lidded bins, and white Chancellor bins for containment and easy access to everything they might need. A garage that functions well sets the tone for the whole home, and it was an essential part of helping this family feel fully settled.
Kitchen and Pantry Organization
In the kitchen, we focused on creating zones that would support this family's busy daily rhythm. Pots and pans were kept above the stovetop using a brass rod with hooks. The essentials are near the stovetop but are also stunning with a salt grinder, pepper grinder, and mortar and pestle on a wood riser nearby. Also near the cooktop, we designated a drawer for all of this family’s spices. I love a good spice drawer because it’s easy to see and find the spice you’re looking for without digging to the back of an upper cabinet. Spice drawers are even better with tiered drawer organizers, matching jars, and modern matching labels.
The other kitchen drawers were organized using plastic drawer organizers that are easy to clean, shallow drawer dividers, deep drawer dividers, an in-drawer knife block, and other acrylic bins so drawers never become a mess of cooking tools. We also made sure the fridge was fully filled and organized before the family's first night in their new home, because nothing says welcome home quite like walking into a kitchen that's ready to feed your family from day one.
In the pantry, we stocked and organized dedicated snack zones for 6 kids. For the upper cabinets where breakfast items, cookbooks, and other recipe cards are kept, we used tall acrylic bins, turntables, magazine files, and tall cereal canisters for clean but visible organization.
